Diversity and Inclusion 2.0: A 21st Century Approach
Diversity & Inclusion 2.0: A 21st Century Approach
January 12-14, 2009
Grand Rapids, MI
* Does your diversity and inclusion initiative need a little boost?
* Are you having trouble getting people to "buy-in?
* Do you need to take your "diversity" understanding, training and workshops to the "next level?"
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’ll want to mark January 12-14, 2009 on your calendar for the Diversity and Inclusion 2.0: A 21st Century Approach Boot Camp to be held in Grand Rapids, MI.
Developed and taught by Dr. Steve L. Robbins, one of the most innovative thinkers and engaging presenters in the field, these three powerful days are designed to help you and your organization leap to the “next level”—a place where organizations truly take advantage of the diverse human talent that exists in our global society by understanding the power of diverse perspectives in enhancing creativity and innovation.
Here is a glimpse of what will be covered in the three days.
Day 1
Diversity & Inclusion: Where we've been, where we are, where we need to go
- This day will provide a historical understanding and context for "diversity work" and provide a framework for developing a 21st century strategy for effectively moving forward. (HINT: The work of diversity is essentially about understanding human behavior within a context of diversity.) One’s knowledge base around diversity and inclusion drives how one “does diversity.” This first day will greatly expand your knowledge base and inspire innovative ways of thinking about and driving diversity and inclusion in a 21st century landscape. In short, be ready for a paradigm shift!
Day 2
What if?: An open mind is a terrible thing to close
- This day will examine different domains of knowledge (e.g., cognitive science, philosophy, socio-psychology, systems theory, etc.) and how we can use these domains to influence our work around diversity and inclusion, especially with respect to messaging/communication, education/training and recruitment/retention. Want to understand how diversity and inclusion influences 1) creativity and innovation, 2) employee engagement and 3) continuous improvement, (i.e., The Business Case for Diversity and Inclusion)? After Day Two, you will.
Day 3
Mindful Matters: Intense Training on Unintentional Intolerance
- This is a full day of training on “Unintentional Intolerance” for participants who would like to conduct training with the concepts they learned. Unintentional Intolerance is a human behavior-based concept developed by Dr. Robbins that has been immensely useful at helping people become more open-minded, cognitively flexible and behaviorally adaptable – necessary attributes for a 21st century world marked by dynamic shifts and increasingly faster rates of change. Incorporating what was learned in the first two days, participants will fully learn the concept, and develop and practice an “Unintentional Intolerance” workshop ideally suited for their respective organizations. On completion each participant who wishes to do so will be certified to be an "Unintentional Intolerance" workshop presenter (see below).
Each day will begin at 8:00 AM and end at approximately 5:00 PM. Optional, special events will be scheduled for the evening hours to allow participants to continue to develop their new network of relationships—a network that will be extremely valuable as each participant engages this extremely important work in their organizations.
